Purple is a colour that is still sadly lacking in my garden. Having finally managed to grow anemones last year, they failed to reappear this Spring. Undeterred, I have now planted half a dozen different irises in various sunny patches around the garden and will wait with brushes poised for the mass of flowers that are bound to appear this Summer.

The hydrangeas can overwhelm everything else unless severely cut back from time to time - the eye-catching blooms can be anything up to a foot across.
